For a nice change of pace, the Board of Trustees met July 15-16 on Mackinac Island for its annual summer retreat. They discussed general League business, Convention updates, and approved recent meeting minutes from the June Board meeting. The State & Federal Affairs department provided an update on the latest happenings in Lansing which included local government reforms, the new Economic Vitality Incentive Program (EVIP and formerly known as revenue sharing) and treasury update, and an update on the state transportation policy. Staff reported on some of the great projects in the works for Let’s Save Michigan (http://letssavemichigan.com/) and various League initiatives, along with a new, exciting look for the Core Legislative Principles (http://www.mml.org/advocacy/committee/2011-7-core-legislative-principles.pdf).
